Tampons... The Lifesaver!
Having a tampon in your survival kit is an asset. It is lightweight, compact, and has multiple usages.
Firstly, tampons can be used as a bandage because of its incredible absorbing capabilities. You can also carry sanitary napkins as sterile dressings. A more natural approach to dressings is using sphagnum moss, but if you are in an area without it or in a winter survival situation, having a sanitary napkin will come in handy!
Secondly, you can use a tampon to help you start a fire. Pull tiny bits of fluff off the tampon and use it to catch a spark. You never know how long you may have to survive so use everything wisely; ration the tampon for maximum use.
You can also use a tampon as a last resort water filter. Take the tampon and warp it with insulating tape such as electrical or duck tape. Make sure the two ends are not covered. Then use the tampon as a straw for sucking water which will filter out particulates but not bacteria or viruses.
By pulling apart the fluff, you can use it to create a hat (a pretty funny looking hat but it will save you) by stuffing a condom with the fluff or if you have access to leaves or cattail that will work as well. Cattail is excellent as down and for catching a spark!
