MSR Water Purification

I have been a fan of MSR for years and they have released yet another reliable product called The HyperFlow microfilter. It utilizes the latest hollow fiber technology which filters 0.2 microns similar to the Platypus Clean Stream. The Hyperflow has an advanced pre-filter to prolong the life of your filter which is a neat idea and design, but you might struggle from time to time keeping it facing down depending on the intensity of the water flow. A quick solution is attaching a rock to the back of the pre- filter pad. If you happen to be limited on water supply, the pad is able suck water off a rock. The HyperFlow does require a bit of force to pump so I recommend it for 1-3 people rather than large groups. It is small (7x3.5 in / 17.8 x 8.3 cm), light weight (7.4 oz/ 209g) and so easy to use. Similar to the Clean Stream, the Hyperflow has tool-free maintainability making it ideal for day trips and multi-day excursions. Do not be fooled by its small size, this magnificent device can filter an impressive 3L of water per minute! (20 strokes) It also includes a quick connect bottle adaptor allowing direct connection to all MSR hydration products (how wonderful) and a variety of other wide mouth containers.To clean the filter, MSR recommends back flushing every 8 L. If you are not familiar with back flushing, MSR provide clear and easy instructions when you purchase the product. Remember, proper maintenance will expand the lifespan of any filter.
